Original Works. Inspired by the highlands and valleys of earth and soul.

Vanessa Coburn is a California native. Having been a creative nearly all her life, dabbling in many different mediums. She settled into her craft of watercolor & acrylic paint as a focus since 2014, however is always reaching for new tools and mediums to mix within her art.

Her current work is inspired by nature, the abstract, and topographical maps. Creating pieces that are both literally inspired, as well as metaphorical. Using watercolor, archival pen, acrylic, watercolor paper, wood panels and canvas, her work is meant to embody beauty and a heartfelt response to seasons of life. Working with watercolor, she tends to push the limits and the norms with this medium. Although she does use the traditional watercolor on paper from time to time, her preferred material is wood. Mixing the elements of water, pigment and wood is always an inspiring and grounding process. Her canvas paintings are all about the abstract and creating lots of layers. Whether she is using a brush, sponge or palette knife, her aim is to create a layered texture rooted in the abstract.
